Flying a couple hundred feet above ground, an Air Force C-130H, with an installed MAFFS system, releases a load of 3,000 tons of water over the ridge-line. After minutes of communication over radio and dry-runs over the forest, water is dropped in the right spot. The pilot of the C-130 follows the tail of a King Air 90 turboprop plane, piloted by a U.S. Forest Service pilot. Then the small prop plane will pop a stream of smoke over the designated area, to identify where the load is to be released. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Andrew Lee)
